Music unites people and cities: EMA at the concert „Between Tunis and Vienna“ | Hamburg | June 21, 2018
On June 21, 2018 the EMA attended the concert „Between Tunis and Vienna“ at the concert hall Laeiszhalle, in Hamburg. Remarkable words by Christian Wullf, former Federal President of Germany and Honorary President of EMA, highlighted the beauty of music as a universal language that crosses borders and can be understood by everyone: „Be curious! Don´t be afraid of the unknown!“ With these words he invited us all to overcome prejudices towards other cultures and embrace an open-minded spirit.
Under the direction of Alexander Mayer, the Hamburg Camerata played the unfinished and long-lost Singspiel "Zaide" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Camerata was accompanied by the Belgian-Tunisian singer Ghalia Benali, who made the evening a unique encounter of music of different cultures and genres. The orchestra and the singer combined classical music with contemporary Arabic poetry.
